Care Animal Hospital of Pleasant Prairie is an independent veterinary practice located in southeast Wisconsin. As a midpoint in the Milwaukee-Chicago corridor, Care Animal Hospital is a primary care veterinarian for over 5,000 patients. With the ability to employ eight doctors, Care Animal Hospital is one of the area’s largest and most medically advanced general practices with services including general and orthopedic surgeries, exotic pet medicine, physical rehabilitation, and behavioral counseling.

Established in 2000 by Dr. Russell Brewer and Dr. Rebecca Wilsey, both graduates of Kansas State University, Care Animal Hospital continues to practice best medicine in an efficient and low-stress environment. Care Animal Hospital has earned accreditation with the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and certification with Fear-Free. We have also gained membership with Veterinary Management Group (VMG) and Veterinary Hospitals Management Association (VHMA).

AAHA Accreditation
We’ve chosen to pursue AAHA accreditation to evaluate stringent quality standards encompassing all aspects of veterinary medicine, from pain management and patient care to team training and medical record keeping. We are continuously updated to keep accredited practice teams at the forefront of the profession. Today, only about 15% of veterinary practices in the US and Canada hold the “AAHA-accredited” designation.

Fear Free Certification
Fear Free has become one of the single most transformative initiatives in the history of companion animal practice. It provides unparalleled education on emotional well-being, enrichment, and the reduction of fear, anxiety, and stress in pets by improving the experience of every human and pet involved.

Company History

In January 1999, Dr. Brewer overheard his old boss talking about a potential veterinary clinic in Pleasant Prairie. Upon checking out the village, both Dr. Brewer and Dr. Wilsey fell in love with the area. The people of Kenosha County are friendly, the area is beautiful, and there are lots of things to do right in your backyard without having to go to the “city.” What a great community to be a part of!

So here begins the story of Care Animal Hospital of Pleasant Prairie. We began to develop a business plan. We operate on the premise that a happy and friendly environment is what we all need. Part of our mission is to treat dogs, cats, and exotic pets with compassion through leading-edge veterinary care.

CARE opened its doors on April 10, 2000. We started with 2 doctors and have grown to include 5 more. With a total of 7 veterinarians, we strive to meet our clients' and patients' needs.

On January 15, 2008, CARE became accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. Only 15% of the veterinary hospitals in the United States are accredited, and CARE has joined their esteemed ranks.

In 2017, we moved to our brand new facility, where we were able to incorporate Fear Free concepts into our clinical setting, such as separate waiting areas for dogs and cats while offering alternative check-in processes for pets that do not do well with other pets. By embodying the mission of preventing and alleviating fear, anxiety, and stress in our patients by educating their owners and our staff, we became Fear Free certified in 2019. Since then, we have been transforming lives one patient at a time, one pet parent at a time, and have seen undeniable results.
