Description
Do you believe in the power of community? If so, Berkshire Humane Society is the place for you! We’re looking for a versatile, full-time, part-time or per diem veterinarian(s) to help us serve animals and people in Berkshire County, Massachusetts and beyond. It’s an exciting time as we launch a new three-year strategic plan to better meet needs of our community. You’ll have the opportunity to shape an evolving medical program for companion animals, the goal of which is to offer quality veterinary care at an affordable price to low-income families. We’ve recently expanded our low-cost basic preventative program to affordable spay and neuter surgeries, dental work and urgent care. Out of public view, you’ll hone your skills in shelter medicine by treating homeless pets, helping them find forever families sooner with timely veterinary care. You may also have the chance to mentor veterinary students as we are exploring collaboration with a veterinary school to provide externship opportunities in community medicine.
At Berkshire Humane Society, we take seriously the “Society” part of our name. We’re people working as a family for a nonprofit organization. We’re all about community! As an employee, you’ll be part of a passionate team of dedicated animal lovers who help place homeless animals and keep pets in their loving homes. You’ll also enjoy the support of our many volunteers, small businesses and donors who believe in what we do.
Our main shelter and Wellness Clinic are in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Our area is called the “Barkshires” by animal lovers, because it’s a great place to explore the outdoors with a dog. The Appalachian Trail traverses our scenic Berkshire hills, an area as rich in cultural history as in natural beauty. Authors Herman Melville, Edith Wharton and Nathaniel Hawthorne lived in the area and other attractions include Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, the Norman Rockwell Museum, Clark Art Institute and Mass MoCa. As a member of our family, you’ll have time to enjoy all these treasures.
Berkshire Humane Society is an independent nonprofit with the mission of compassionate care, treatment and placement of companion animals, while promoting and improving the welfare of all animals through education and outreach. Our vision is compassionate and responsible care for all animals and our values include compassion, empathy, accountability and transparency in all we do; respect and dignity for every being without judgement; and excellence in service, advocacy and teamwork.
