About Ovens Valley Equine and Surrounds.
Ovens Valley Equine is a well-established and expanding 3.5 vet equine practice located in picturesque Northeast Victoria. We offer comprehensive equine medical, surgical and reproductive services. We have a thriving and expanding general equine practice (both in clinic and ambulatory) which services a large variety of pleasure and performance horse clientele as well as some racetrack work. Our reproductive services include fresh, chilled and frozen artificial insemination, embryo transfer, stallion training, semen collection and semen freezing.
We operate from a beautiful 100-acre property on the Ovens River, at the gateway to the Victorian Alpine and Winery Region. Our clinic is located 9km from Wangaratta, a thriving rural city with excellent sporting, education and retail opportunities. We are 75 minutes from the snowfields, 45 minutes from the Murray River and 2.5 hours from Melbourne. Gourmet wine and food opportunities abound in this beautiful part of Victoria.
Our facilities
Our practice is well established and respected. Diagnostic equipment includes:
- Digital radiography (Radincon).
- Multiple ultrasound machines (Mindray).
- Portable digital endoscopy.
- Full in-house laboratory including blood (Idexx) and parasitology (Parasight) diagnosis.
- Computer assisted sperm analysis.
- Ambulatory point of care diagnostic tests and equipment.
Purpose built facilities include:
- A dedicated lameness area with trot lane, round yard and sand arena.
- Covered mare and foal crush and stocks for medical and reproductive procedures.
- Stables and yards for hospitalisation.
- An extensive paddock system for the agistment of reproductive and hospital cases.

Requirements
About You
We are seeking an experienced equine veterinarian to join our team and take the lead in the general practice component of our clinic. You will:
- have a minimum 2 years’ experience in equine practice
- be confident working with a varied caseload.
- need to be self-resourceful and capable of working autonomously, whilst also comfortable in a team environment.
- enjoy providing high quality medical, field surgical and ambulatory care, delivered with a superior customer focus.
- be able to register to practice in Victoria
- have a current Australian driver’s licence.
Competency in sport horse medicine and lameness would be highly desirable. Basic skills in equine reproduction would be looked upon favourably but are not essential.
About The Role
- This is a full-time position based on a 38-hour week. A flexible roster is available.
- A generous remuneration package will be discussed commensurate with experience.
- A fully equipped motor vehicle and phone are supplied for business purposes.
- Hours worked in excess of 38 hours per week (eg weekends) are compensated as paid time in lieu.
- After hours duties will involve one night per week and one weekend in three on call.
- Generous after-hours bonuses are paid for all after hours calls you attended.
- Your package will include annual AVA/EVA membership. Conference fees and paid study leave to cover 38 hours continuing education will be paid annually.
