ER Veterinary Technician - Part-time*Day, Swing, or Overnight shifts available
ACCESS San Fernando Valley is comprised of emergency, critical care, cardiology, internal medicine, neurology and surgery providing the highest level of care for pets in our community.
There are multiple routes and opportunities for growth within our hospital, and organization. We have Technician Trainers to help set you up for success and continued development, work alongside you and present continuing education lectures and wet labs!
Role Responsibilities:
- Obtain temperature, pulse and respiratory rates from patients with knowledge of what
normal ranges are and when to alert the doctor. Understand how and why to check the
mucous membranes and know what this means. - Perform triages with an understanding of what a triage is and how to obtain a basic
history from the owner. Know what triages are considered immediate. - Give accurate and detailed patient rounds.
- Use Ezvyet with an understanding of how to look up patients, review a medical history,
enter a client communication and enter charges. - Use Smartflow with an understanding of how to look up a patient, sign off medications,
create templates and calculate doses. - Perform nursing care for patients consistently evaluating the patient for clean,
comfortable bedding. Know how to safely clean the patient if needed and assess if a
patient is comfortable or anxious. Check the IVC for swelling around the tape and confirm
if the catheter is patent. - Make heparinized saline flush bag and sterile flush syringes and keep these stocked in
departments as needed. - Set up flow by oxygen, set up and calibrate the oxygen cage, and change carbolime as
needed. - Obtain an accurate ECG with knowledge of how to connect the patient to the correct
leads. - Aseptically disconnect and reconnect the IV fluid bag to the patient port and set up an IV
fluid bag with administration set and extension set. - Perform safe patient restraint for physical exam, blood collection, IV catheter placement,
abdominal ultrasound, cardiac ultrasound. - Properly check, stock and lock the crash carts.
- Understand basic medical math with converting lb to kg.
- Perform in house laboratory snap tests including FeLV, FIV, 4Dx, Cortisol, Parvo.
- Appropriately set up a hot dog or bair hugger and know when it is appropriate to use
each. - Set up for and assist as needed for IVC placement.
- Knowledge of safe chemotherapy protocols and how to handle a patients that have
received chemotherapy. - Understanding of basic vocabulary.
- Responsible for training technical employees in levels below current level
- Responsible for upholding the spirit of ACCESS by handling all necessary tasks that
require attention
Experience Requirements:
• Veterinary technician licensure preferred
• 2-3 years of clinical experience
• An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program preferred; or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Compensation: $20-$36/hr based upon experience + shift differentials
